SAN FRANCISCO, CA – June 22, 2006 – Hyperic, the first company to offer an open source IT management platform providing auto-discovery, monitoring and control for all open source and commercial hardware and software, announced today that it has joined the Open Management Consortium to aid the group's efforts to promote integration and interoperability among open source systems management products.
As a member, Hyperic will work with the Consortium to create awareness of open source management tools in the market, help establish interoperability standards, pursue collaborative development projects with other Consortium members, and improve integration between the Hyperic HQ IT Management Platform and other open source management solutions.
"After 20 years of struggling with technologies like SNMP and the vendor lock-in that is inherent with proprietary software, the IT management space is ripe for an open source strategy, but any open source initiative cannot succeed without interoperability among solutions. The Open Management Consortium provides a vehicle for making that happen," said Javier Soltero, Hyperic chief executive officer. "We plan to play an active role in the Consortium to help bring the rapid deployment and low total cost of ownership benefits of open source to the management of the IT infrastructure."
"The members of the consortium are very excited to see Hyperic bring their experience and resources to our efforts," said William Hurley, Chairman, Open Management Consortium and CTO of founding member Qlusters. "Hyperic is positioned to make a valuable contribution toward the Consortium's advocacy, collaboration and interoperability goals."
Hyperic HQ offers a comprehensive open source solution for managing all open source and commercial IT assets. The platform comes with plug-ins for every major web server, application server and database including leading open source products, enabling out-of-the-box deployment in less than an hour. Products without plug-ins can be rapidly added to Hyperic HQ's database through open access to Hyperic's source code.
Hyperic HQ's inventory auto-discovery, monitoring, alerting and portal tools as well as all plug-ins are available for free download at www.hyperic.com. Hyperic HQ Enterprise Subscription, available for a yearly fee per managed computer, adds 24x7 support as well as advanced features including remote resource control, role-based security, log/security event tracking, policy-based management and problem identification.
